Year-Round Trophy Trout Opportunities

While we traditionally stock our private stream for 10 months (from Labor Day Weekend through June 30th), 2025 saw us stock all 12 months of the year, thanks to favorable conditions. We strategically manage our stream during the warmer months of July and August, only stocking if water flows are high enough to support a healthy fish population, ensuring optimal conditions and the best trout fishing in West Virginia.

Major Annual Big Stocking Events

Plan your trip around our major stocking events for a chance at a truly memorable catch:

  • Big Trout Only: First week of March—targeting anglers looking for a serious challenge.  This stocking targets big trout for your spring season.

  • Golden Trout: The first two weeks of April feature special stockings of these beautiful fish.

  • Signature Events: Keep an eye out for ORVIS and other exclusive VIP Events.

  • Project Healing Waters: A major stocking in the first week of December, featuring huge trout for our veterans.

Variety of Trout

We focus on stocking quality over quantity, offering an exciting challenge for anglers of all skill levels:

  • Diverse Trout: While our primary stock is Rainbow Trout, we also occasionally introduce Brook, Golden, Brown, and Tiger Trout. Many of our Rainbow Trout are of the Manastes strain - hybridized steelhead trout.

  • Average Size: Our typical stocking includes 2-3 lb trout, with about 10% weighing an impressive 4-6 lbs.

  • Trophy Catches: When water volume permits, we stock massive fish, including many over 10 lbs, perfect for anglers seeking big catches and that next trophy trout.

Whether you're a seasoned fly fisherman or looking for an unparalleled outdoor adventure, Harman's private stocking program delivers an unforgettable trout fishing getaway.

Frequently Asked Questions

CAN WE KEEP TROUT WE CATCH AT THE PRIVATE STREAM ACCESS?

Harman’s exclusive private stream access is managed as a catch-and-release.

This policy is in place to ensure a sustainable and healthy fish population, allowing anglers to enjoy the thrill of fishing while preserving the trout as long as possible.

WHAT TYPES OF HOOKS ARE ALLOWED?

Harman's is a premier destination for both fly fishing and spinner fishing year-round.

The hook restriction for the private stream is as follows:

  • Permitted: Anglers must use only barbless, single hooks.

  • Not Permitted: Barbed and treble hooks are not allowed.

WHAT IS THE COST TO FISH AT THE PRIVATE STREAM ACCESS FOR A NON GUEST?
Non – guests may purchase a single day permit at the property office. Permits are managed on a first come/first server basic and stream usage.
IS THE FISHING BANK FISHING AND/OR WADING?
We recommend having waders on at all times.  You can fish from the bank, but waders ensure the trout will be handled over the water at all times and not dragged up on the bank.
WHAT TYPE OF BAITS ARE ALLOWED?

At Harman's, only traditional fly fishing flies and approved artificial spinning lures may be used, ensuring the safety and health of the trout population.

Recommended Lures:

  • We recommend Trout Magnet and spinners without treble hooks for optimal success.

Not Permitted:

To ensure a natural and sustainable fishing experience, the following are strictly not allowed:

  • No live bait is permitted.

  • Artificial lures with or without scent (including Gulp scented products).

  • Salmon eggs and power bait.

DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PERMIT TO FISH AT THE STREAM?
Yes, a Harman’s permit is required and must be viewable from a distance in order to fish at the stream. As of  2023 a permit fee will be required. Why? Harman’s is attempting to determine how many fishermen are on property at one time and how many per cabin. By charging a minimal fee, we will be able to determine the best management practices for our guests in the future.
WHAT WEIGHT FLY ROD DO YOU RECOMMEND?
The standard rod used by our customer’s is a 9 ft 5 wt. Our trout range from 1 1/2 lbs to 10 lbs.rnrn
IS A NET RECOMMENDED?
A net is mandatory for fishing at Harman’s to ensure the safe handling of trout. The net helps keep the fish in or over the water, preventing them from being dragged onto the bank during release. This practice promotes the health and well-being of the trout
