Log Cabin Policies and Info
Do you allow smoking inside the cabins?
- Smoking is not allowed in cabins. Smoking is allowed outside of the cabins.
Can we keep trout?
- The stream is managed as a private access Catch and Release only. Every trout must be released immediately.
What credit cards do you accept?
- Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.
Do you accept checks?
- We accept WV state checks, money orders, and traveler’s checks.
How old do I need to be to rent a cabin?
- You must be twenty one years old to rent a cabin.
General Information on what we provide/what to bring
What do you provide?
- We provide the following: towels, washcloths, bed linens, blankets, pillows, toilet paper, stainless steel pots, pans, coffee pot and cooking utensils for use in the cabin.
What do we need to bring?
- You need to bring personal soaps, shampoo, dish washing(dawn), Cascade(dish washer), laundry detergent, hair dryer, iron, salt, pepper, foil, sugar, paper plates, paper towels, napkins, and condiments. We recommend you bring any stickless pots, you may prefer. We sell most of these items in the Gift Shop.
Log Cabin Occupancy & Guests
Can we bring extra people?
- Each luxury log cabin has a maximum occupancy or maximum number of people allowed to spend the night at the cabin.
Can we have guests at our log cabin?
- Each luxury log cabin has a maximum occupancy. A minimum number of guests from outside the property can be at the property for short durations (under 4 hours). We are concerned with outside guests, because of the impact is has on other guests at the property. You must inform the office of these guests.
Can outside guests fish the property?
- No outside guests are allowed to fish the property, unless they have paid our daily fishing fee and received a permit from the office.
Do you allow pets at your log cabins and log cabin property?
- Our only pet friendly log cabin is #19. Guest may bring up to two pets to this log cabin. At the main log cabin resort in Hopeville Canyon or at log cabin #17 no pets are allowed
Can we have a family reunion, event, or wedding at the property?
- Special events are must be managed thru the office. Any family reunion, executive event, corporate retreat or wedding must be communicated with the office.
Check-In
What if we arrive after the office is closed?
- The directions on your confirmation letter will get you to your log cabin. Your cabin will be unlocked with the key on the kitchen table. Your confirmation letter will be in the cabin with your name on it. You must stop by the office the next day to make your final payment and to sign a hot tub liability release form.
Can we check in early?
- On occasions properties will be available for early check-in. The absolute earliest check-in is 1:00PM.
Can fishing guest arrive early?
- Fishing guests cannot arrive at the property to fish before check-in. Check-in at the absolute earliest is 1:00PM. Fishing guests must check-in at the office to receive their permits before fishing.
Check-Out
What if we want to check out late?
- Checkout is at 11AM. If you wish to check-out later, the cabin must not be booked the next day; you must pre-arrange with the office; a fee of $50.00 will be assessed. You must checkout by 4PM, and must leave not be fishing on the property after 4PM.
What’s in the Log Cabins
Does each log cabin have its own outdoor grill?
- Each log cabin has an outdoor grill. However outdoor cooking utensils are the hardest item for us to consistently provide. We recommend you consider brings your favorite outdoor cooking utensils. We do not provide the charcoal. It is sold in our Gift Shop.
Are the log cabins heated other than the fireplace?
- Our log cabins have multiple heating sources. Each cabin has heat pump and gas fireplace. In additional some log cabins have electric heat as well.
Do the log cabins have A/C?
- Each log cabin has A/C as well as ceiling fans to cool the cabin.
What is the bed configuration of each log cabin?
- #1 Rainbow Trout has 1 King, 1 Queen, and 2 Twins.
- #2 Smallmouth Bass has 2 Queens.
- #3 Whitetail Deer has 2 Queens and 2 Twins.
- #4 Golden Trout has 1 Queen.
- #5 Wild Turkey has 1 Queen.
- #6 Brook Trout has 1 Queen.
- #7 Black Bear has 1 Queen and 2 Twins.
- #8 Speedy's Retreat has 1 King and 1 Full.
- #9 Eagle's Nest has 1 Queen and 2 Twins.
- #10 Fisherman's Dream has 1 Queen.

Does each log cabin have Wi-Fi?
- Each log cabin has access to Wi-Fi. Some cabins do not have the modem/router in the cabin, but access via another cabin's Wi-Fi is allowed. The office has a public Wi-Fi access point on the deck overlooking the North Fork River. All access points are open to all log cabin guests. Wi-Fi cannot be guaranteed because of our rural setting.
Does each log cabin have a phone?
- These log cabins have a phone: 1, 4, 8, 9, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20.
- A general public use phone can be accessed on the outside wall at the office.
Is the fireplace wood burning?
- All log cabins have a gas log fireplace. They work with an electrical switch/timer.
Does each log cabin have its own outdoor campfire pit?
- These log cabins have a private campfire pit: 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20. We do have common fire pits located in central areas. Near cabin # 4, 5, 6, 7 as well as near #13, #14 and #11, 12.
Do you have outside furniture?
- Each log cabin has some outside log chairs or log furniture. We recommend you bring additional outside furniture/chairs for your families west Virginia vacation.
Are all the riverside log cabins along the river or riverfront?
- Yes. The distance to the North Fork River from each cabin is listed below:

Trout Fishing Information
Can fishing guests arrive early?
- Fishing guests cannot arrive at the property to fish before check-in. Check-in at the absolute earliest is 1:00PM. Fishing guests must check-in at the office to receive their permits before fishing.
Can fishing guest stay late?
- Fishing guests cannot stay after 11AM checkout, unless a partial day fishing fee is paid or a late checkout fee is paid. The fee is $50 per guest. This will be managed on a per request basis.
Can an outside guest fish the property?
- No outside guests visiting a cabin are allowed to fish with a paid fishing permit. A daily fishing fee of $75.00 can be paid. This is managed on a per request basis. On weekends, the maximum number of daily fishing fee guest’s is 2. Midweek, the maximum number of daily fishing fee guest’s is 4.
Can a single day fishing permit be purchased for an outside guest?
- Yes. A daily fishing fee of $75.00 can be paid. This is managed on a per request basis. On weekends, the maximum number of daily fishing fee guest’s is 2. Midweek, the maximum number of daily fishing fee guest’s is 4.
Can we keep the fish we catch?
- No. The private stream access at the cabins is managed as a catch and release. The trout caught must be released immediately.
Can we fish with live bait? Treble hooks? Barbed hooks?
- No. Live bait, treble hooks (3 hooks on lure), and barbed hooks cannot be used.
What are you fishing rules?
- Barbless hooks only
- Must have a net to land trout, especially for our large trout
- No treble hooks (3 hooks on lure)
- Single hook only – artificial lures only
- No multiple hook artificial spinning lures (single hook only)
- No live bait, power bait, salmon eggs, corn
- All must have a Harman's permit when fishing at the stream.
- If a trout is hooked deep, cut the line to save the trout.
Do I need a WV fishing license?
- Yes. You will need a WV fishing license, a trout stamp and conservation stamp.
Where can I purchase a WV fishing license?
- We recommend purchasing online at www.wvdnr.gov before you arrive. When purchasing, most customers typically purchase daily license, not annual. Other nearby locations are the North Fork Community Store or Smoke Hole Caverns (2 miles).
What fly fishing supplies do you have?
- Sims Waders, Fishpond, Umpqua, Rio, Temple Fork Fly Rod Chronicle Rod
- Dry/Wets Flies, leaders, fly fishing supplies, fishing nets
- Fly rod rentals, Temple Fork Fly Rod/Reels Combo packs for purchase;
- Spinning reels rentals, Casto spinners (single hook), trout Magnets.
Other Information
What do you have at your gift shop?
- We sell general personal supplies that may have been forgotten (e.g. tooth brush, etc.)
- Personal soaps, shampoo, dish washing (dawn), Cascade (dish washer), laundry detergent, hair dryer, iron, salt, pepper, foil, sugar, paper plates, paper towels, napkins, condiments.

Do wireless phones work in the area?
- No. An Iphone and other internet phone(s) can be used to text at the cabins via our WiFi service. If you must have phone service, the closest service location is 5 miles east of the property near Petersburg, WV.
Do I need to bring my own firewood?
- We sell firewood it at our Gift Shop.
What is your actual physical mailing address?
- HC 59 Box 1412, Cabins, WV, 26855.

Are there grocery stores nearby?
- Yes.
- 1 mile - a small country store.
- 12 miles - Petersburg, WV - a Foodland grocery store
- 25 miles - Moorefield, WV - the nearest Wal-Mart.
Are there restaurants nearby?
- The closest restaurant is 5 miles away. There are other family restaurants and fast food in Petersburg (12 miles), Seneca Rocks (12 miles) or Moorefield (25 miles).
Do you have a pool?
- No. Our guests can swim, inner tube, raft, or canoe in the river at the cabins. Warning: No life guard is provided. You and your guests must swim at your own risk.
What is the difference between an indoor Jacuzzi and an outdoor hot tub?
- An indoor Jacuzzi is similar to a large bathtub with jets. The water is filled each time it is used. The temperature of a Jacuzzi is depended on the hot water heater and hot water consumption used in the cabin during your visit.
- An outdoor hot tub is filled with water at all times. The water is treated with chemicals like a swimming pool. A hot tub has a heater to consistently heat the water. Our hot tubs are checked by trained staff before each check-in, and after each check-out.
