West Virginia Trout Fishing Vacations
Harman's is privately stocking 1 1/2 miles of the North Fork River at
the cabins, making it a premier destination for great trout fishing vacations. Harman’s stocks the steam all year,
with the exception of July and August. Even better, access is restricted to customers of the property and permit
holders. The stream is managed as Catch and Release Water. Fly Fishing and spinning tackle can be used, but no
bait fishing is allowed, only artificial lures.
Two other sections of Catch and Release are nearby, while a one mile section of stream at Seneca Rocks and a mile
of stream in the Smoke Hole Canyon are managed by the state as Catch and Release, and provide more unequalled West
Virginia trout fishing.
Memorable Trout Fishing Vacations
Additionally 52 miles of stream nearby are stocked by the state of West Virginia, while the 26 miles of the North
Fork of the South Branch from Riverton to the cabins and 26 miles of the South Branch river are stocked as Put
and Take streams with the legal limit of trout per day being six. These sections of the stream area are easily
accessed from a rural route. The streams are stocked with rainbow, brown, brook and golden trout.
During the year the state will stock during January, February, March, April, May, June, and October. It should
be mentioned as well that the Smoke Hole section of the South Branch is considered the best trophy trout stream
in the state and surrounding states. Trout weighing over 4lbs are consistently caught on this section of the stream;
making this a mecca for West Virginia trout fishing.
West Virginia Bass Fishing
Trout fishing vacations aren’t the only thing to do in these beautiful locations, however, there are a few great
locations to fish for smallmouth bass nearby. The South Branch River Smoke Hole Canyon section is considered by
many to be one of the most beautiful areas in West Virginia. The remote, rugged landscape provides a unique recreation
experience while you are fishing. It contains large and smallmouth bass.
The South Branch River from the old dam to the gap bridge is a good section of water for smallmouth bass. It can
be accessed by a canoe or boat, as well as a few public access points.
The South Branch River from the Gap Bridge to the Fisher bridge is managed as Catch and Release for bass. It
is a nine mile section of stream that is easiest to access by a canoe or small boat. This section of river has
a public access 4 1/2 mile take out just past the Valley View Golf Course.
