Each year, the WV Division of Tourism salutes the brightest industry leaders and the best tourism and travel media features through their awards program Stars of the Industry Awards.

I am very proud to announce that September 22 nd, at the WV Division of Tourism Governors Conference Awards Dinner held in Snowshoe, WV, Grant County won an award for Best Broadcast.

The broadcast was Curtis Fleming's Fly Rod Chronicles which aired on the National Sportsman Channel.

The criteria included the

· And the best capturing of your County and the State.

Cameras rolled at Harman's North Fork Cottages in Cabins, WV as Nashville’s Top 40 Recording Artist Julia Burton and Fly Rod Chronicles Producer and Host Curtis Fleming fished the North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River, while en-route to do a performance at Spring Mountain Festival in her hometown of Petersburg, WV

Also, featured in the Broadcast was, Eric Hevener at Spring Run Trout Hatchery, The Water Falls above Spring Run Trout Hatchery, Spring Mt. Festival, the Lions Club Welcome to Petersburg sign, South Side Depot, Canoeing on the North Fork river. Harman’s Cottages, Seneca Rocks and John Denver’s Country Roads.

Harman's Highlights July - Log Home Living Weekend Swimming Trout Fishing and Fly Rod Chronicles - Julia Burton

Harman's own Cabin #16 is in the July Log Home Living Best Cabins Magazine Page 8.

Over the weekend stayed in Cabin #16 for our 25th year reunion. Old friend enjoyed "luxury camping" and singing around the campfire. During day, the kids really enjoyed swimming and tubing.

Trout fishing is still good. Our stream flows are really good for august; and trout are hanging in with warmer conditions.

I spotted quite a few trout over 20" and 4LBs. And lots of trout in general.

Harman's and Julia Burton (country singer) were just featured in the latest episode of Fly Rod Chronicles TV with Curtis Fleming on The Sportsman Channel. The show featured Julia Burton at the Grant County Spring Mountain Festival in Petersburg, WV.

Best Month ever!!! Thank You. Our July was the best month ever at Harman's NFC. We really appreciate all of the repeat/return customers as well as the new customers that are experiencing Harman's for the first time.

96 Trout in 3 days of fishing

Hello,

I was reading the July Newsletter and was so surprised to see that you mentioned the great weekend of fishing that I had at your place. I am the fellow who caught 96 fish in three days. Thank you again for the great fishing experience that I had. Can't wait to come back!!

2009 The Sportsman channel

Curtis Fleming and his crew stayed at Harman’s to film 3 shows for their 2009 season. The shows highlight the great trout fishing in the area.

The first show filmed Phil Gay, a Federation of Fly Fishers Master Casting Instructor, teaching the Fly Rod Chronicles team’s children casting lessons.

The second show filmed a father daughter graduation gift of a week trout fishing at Harman’s.

The third show filmed a local rising country singing star Julia Burton catching trout at Harman’s.

How many Trout on this trip?

There were two 4lb.’ers landed within our group and would venture to guess 4-5 other of that size that broke us off.

We got 35 between 2 guys on Thur evening from 5:30-9pm.

Friday was very hard since it was somewhat blown however the magnet and spinners saved the day with about 35 fish between the three of us. Saturday was better although still turned a lot with magnet and spinner. The evening hatch on Sat was great with BWO, Sulphur, March Brown and Yellow Sally coming off with a fever pitch of rises from 8-9pm.

Total for Saturday was more like 45-55 for the three of us.

Sun fishing was great all around, nymphing with soft hackle pheasant tail size 12-16. Then from about 6 pm on we all switched to dries with another fever pitch of rises from 8-9 pm. Sunday total was probably more like 60 +, lost count kind of a day. I think if the weather was more cooperative we would have done better but clearly the best option was at Harman’s.

I will be bringing my family back in late June.

2009 WVTU Fly Fishing School

Sunday was the final day for the 2009 WVTU Fly Fishing School. Four students (Tom, Bill,Dee, and Art) and their last day instructors

(Greg, Vince, Jack, and Brent) were invited to fish the North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac at Harmon's Cabins. The day was warm and sunny. The water was clear and running a little fast due to recent thunderstoms.

Maybe more than a little more of a challenge for beginner fly fishers.

Hatches of March Browns, Green Drakes and a few Yellow Sallies were observed with several trout breaking the surface in search of a quick meal. This section of water was full of trout! The protective currents and matching the hatch proved difficult in catching only a few fish but of quality.

Two rainbows appeared to be in the four pound range which were promptly released. Two students (Dee and Bill) were not sucessful but really enjoyed their experience and indicated their desire to return. All had positive comments of the solitude, the quality of the cabins and a great place to fish.

Memorial Day Weekend 2009

Wow!!! This weekend was perfect. The friends, family, weather, water and trout

Saturday early AM started with a few hours of trout fishing. I caught over 12 trout in about 2 hours. Mostly rainbows on streamers; a few on blue wing olive. The early morning was interrupted by a visit from my oldest son (Spencer). He wanted to go fishing. That’s a first!! We caught 2 trout before he started throwing rocks. A 12” brown and a 14” rainbow trout on a BWO. After the rock throwing session, the trout were not hitting quite as well.

Saturday afternoon the Harman’s (Angelina, Todd, Spencer, Christian), Jermey and Mika, Roby’s (Kelsie and Fred) and friends(John and Lori) went canoeing on the South Branch River. The water was perfect. Fred and Kelsie were the first to “roll the canoe”. The kids really had fun swimming at the cliff hole. We rented from Eagles Nest Outfitters. They did a great job, getting the group safely to and from the stream. We really appreciate the extra effort. As soon as we returned home, dinner was served. I’ve been trying to get mom to provide food to customers for year. They are missing out. The meal was awesome, and the timing was perfect!! On the table hot as soon as we arrived from our trip.

Fred & I spent some time together fly fishing Saturday evening. It’s the first time we’ve taken the time to fish the property since starting the expansion in 1996. It was a great evening. Fred’s 1^st trout on a fly rod was a brown trout using a Blue Wing Olive size 14. The fishing was great; during the day we caught over 15 trout with the largest about 18”.

When it became too dark to fish, we joined the family at the camp fire for Smores!!

Sunday early AM started with another few hours trout fishing. I caught over 14 trout in about 2 hours. Most of the rainbows were caught on a black steamer with a “PINK” head just above the bridge. A few brown trout were caught on a blue wing olive and a few more rainbows were caught in the riffles between Cabin #13 and #15. During the early morning fishing, two bald eagles were flying just above the rock cliffs at the cabins. Around 8AM my youngest Son (Christian) showed up to go trout fishing. He caught 3 trout in about 20 minutes. One rainbow was at least 18”. It was our family’s largest trout of the weekend. Angelina fished for a few minutes and caught a couple of trout. On of the most interesting was brown trout that was hook on the tail.. It was a great morning.

Our 2^nd UTV Wilderness tour of the weekend was planned at 11AM. It was a full tour 2 ATV guides; and all 4 UTVs. The trip was another relaxing trip to Richwoods!

Finally, we really spent some good time training the next generation on “how to have fun”!!!

Fly Rod Chronicles has the good fortune to be invited and fly fish all over the world. We can't tell you how excited we get to come back home and stay with Harman's North Fork Cottages. You not only have the cleanest most luxurious cabins in one of the prettiest parts of the world...they lie on the banks of a Trophy Trout Stream that make fisherman and families want to come back. As we all know, trying to please teen-age kids is not of the easiest task. My teen-age daughter said it best just the other day when we talked about her upcoming birthday..."Dad, I would like to spend my birthday at Harman's". At Harman's there is fun for all...Fly Fishing, Hiking, Biking, Caving, Rock Climbing, Horseback, UTV Riding and did I say FISHING!

Another Great Fishing Story

Thanks for the upgrade! That cabin is wonderful. We shot pool and relaxed in the cabin the first day because the water was so high. Two of the guys left the next morning because the water did not go down any over night. After they left we decided to at least try it. I caught a brown on the second cast and things began to look up. We fished what water we could and finally we located the trout. I caught seventeen and the other guy caught nine. He had never caught a trout and when we started I told him if we caught six we would have a good day because of the water conditions. I had one fish that was about 22" and another right after that which was about 19" and fat! I saw a lot of fish I did not catch and had several on I did not get in. I hooked another big one and it got out in the fast water and eventually broke me off. Jamie had a fish chase his fly which was around 20". I can't believe we caught that many fish under those conditions.

I will have to say we had a very good trip and they really liked the place. When I called the other two to tell them how we did they could believe it. They are interested in going back!

Hi Todd,

Thank you once again for your hospitality. My family appreciates your generosity Needless to say the fishing was exceptionally. I have never caught as many big fish while fishing that area of West Virginia. The numbers of fish were also surprising. I caught lots of the fish on small blue winged olive dries as well as small black midge dries.

I will be back the weekend of June 5^th and look forward to catching more hogs.

Another great day at the stream

Hey Todd,

Just wanted to thank you for the stay at your cabins. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of fishing you have on the property. The cabins are wonderful and it was a great experience. There are a few things I look at when rating a trout stream and yours had some of those qualities. I only wish you could keep trout year round. I am also wondering how far up you own. I fished well past the last cabin and liked the water above the cabins better than the water around the cabins. I like fishing pocket water and shallow riffles and that water had everything I look for in a trout stream. I did catch fish in that section but could only believe they had made their way up or down stream.

There is some nice water around the cabins. Like I said, I am not a big fan of the deep holes but found the trout willing to take dry flies in those holes this early in the season. That is a quality you need to exploit! There are very few places around here that offer the opportunity to catch trout on dries the way the stream does on your property. I will have to go back when the weather opens up and the surface action really gets going. This is something most fly fishermen can't resist. When you go to shows you need to let people know this. My father stood in one hole most of the day and caught trout on dries all day. To cap it all off I was catching trout on size 22 dries. This is another big win. Most guys like catching testy fish on small flies. That type of fishing is when an angler is challenged to pick the right fly, make the right cast, set the hook right, and play the fish so he doesn't break the tippet. Game on!!

I caught 25 the first day and we didn't get fishing until after noon. Thursday I caught 41 and limited myself to casting dries over some selective trout later in the afternoon. I did take one fish that was 22", one 19.5", one 18", and several in the 16" class and all were healthy fish. I'm impressed with the quality and quantity of fish. My hats off to you because your I came in expecting the same thing you see at other places. Because of the quality of fishing you have set yourself apart from the others. I will definitely get the word out on your place. As I said, I have already talked to a few people about it and they are waiting to see how my trip went.
One thing I would like for the store is a DVD. I also need some brochures. I think you have something very good and hope it continues!

Oh, the highlight of the trip was watching a bald eagle soar again the rock cliff below the bridge. We were fishing at the upper cabins and we could see it very well.

Another Great Weekend at Harman's

The stream is in great shape. Many folks fishing this weekend. Mutliple people caught over 30 fish in a day. A few trout over 4 lbs were caught. I was able to take two hours to fish.

Fred, I and the kids tested our UTVs on Richwoods for the next adventure.. We plan to offer off-site UTV Wilderness Tours starting in early April.

Great Weekend at Harman's

We just had a great weekend at Harman's. On sunday morning while checking the stream for trout, at least 7 trout were caught by customer's in 30 minutes. One rainbow was over 3 1/2 lbs. In the afternoon, my family and I traveled to Canaan Valley for afternoon Snow Tubing. Great fun. The snow was fast and the temperatures were ok. Lots of good pictures.
